Tour Summary

Venture from the Cabo Marina for an exciting expedition to see the extraordinary Gray Whales as they swim through waters off the coast of Los Cabos. Annually, these gargantuan mammals migrate from the cold northern waters of the Bering Sea to enjoy the warm food-rich waters of the Sea of Cortez. The Gray Whales first appear in the area at the beginning of January in order to mate, give birth, and nurse their offspring in the pleasing placid waters off the Baja Peninsula. You may spy these gigantic cetaceans breaching, swimming with their newborns, and socializing in pods before they begin their long journey back north during the spring.

Gray Whales are not the typical species of whale; Gray Whales are the only known example of a bottom-feeding whale. They sift through the sediment on the sea floor for tiny crustaceans. These aquatic mammals often remain close to shore, especially when nursing. Protective mothers tend to favor staying in sheltered coves and bays.

Other aquatic mammals also inhabit the Sea of Cortez including Sea Lions, Bottlenose Dolphins, and even the occasional Humpback Whale. A group of Sea Lions live off Bahia Cabo near Lands End. Wild Dolphins can also be spotted off the coast of Los Cabos. Humpback Whales, like Grays, journey from colder climates every winter to the waters off the western Mexican Coast but are not as prevalent near Cabo. If one of your kids is fascinated with marine biology, this enlightening excursion will inspire them.

We limit the number of passengers in our customized zodiac whale watching vessels in order to ensure that everyone has a great view and plenty of room. Our professional naturalists have plenty of experience to know the areas that the whales frequent so participants can view them diving, breaching, tail-splashing, and spouting.

Thanks to the professional guides! I was a bit worried about kayaking because I had never done it before, but the instructions were great and I had such a good time!
