Tour Summary

Depart with the crew of the Cabo Escape from the marina in downtown Cabo San Lucas for an exhilarating excursion to view the impressive Gray Whales as they maneuver through the waters of the Sea of Cortez. Every year, these mammoth cetaceans travel from the chilly northern waters off the Alaskan coast to enjoy the balmy, abundant waters surrounding the Baja Peninsula. The Gray Whales first arrive in the region near the end of the year in order to court, breed, give birth, and nurse in the pleasant protected waters near Los Cabos. You may witness these humongous creatures breaching, swimming with newborn calves, and socializing in pods before they start their extensive migration northward to the Bering Sea around the end of March.

Gray Whales are quite an unusual species of whale, they are the only whale known to bottom feed, sifting tiny crustaceans from the soil in the sea bed. These marine mammals tend to prefer to stay relatively close to the coastline, especially when nursing. Protective mothers prefer the secure environment of coves.

Other marine mammal species that can be spotted in the region include Sea Lions, Dolphins, and occasionally Humpback Whales. A large collection of Sea Lions inhabit the Sea Lion Colony near Lands End just off Cabo San Lucas Bay. Wild Dolphins, especially Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins also inhabit this area. Like Gray Whales, Humpbacks also migrate from northern waters annually during the wintertime, but are not as prevalent in the waters near Cabo. If you have a child who is interested in marine biology, this educational tour will peak their interest and hold their attention.

We schedule our whale watching expedition earlier in the day, because that is the time when these animals are the most active. Our expert naturalist guides have the extensive experience to find the Gray Whales so passengers can see them breaching, diving, spouting, and tail-splashing. You'll be delighted by the dramatic displays of these intelligent and gentle giants. This cruise includes a continental breakfast and an open bar with champagne mimosas and bloody mary's.

Thanks to the professional guides! I was a bit worried about kayaking because I had never done it before, but the instructions were great and I had such a good time!
